To assure a happy home for both owner and dog, it has become obvious that providing proper training for the dog and owner is very important.

After attending ANIMAL BEHAVIOR COLLEGE and becoming certified in behavior modification and obedience training, I'm offering classes based on positive reinforcement. This type of training has been proven to be the most effective at producing a happy, friendly family pet.

For you convenience, I offer two types of training programs. My goal is to inable you to choose which one you feel will be more effective for you and your dog.

The first program is given in your home. If you have a problem with time limitations, this may work better for you. I will come to your home, evaluate your dog and find out what your goals are for your dog. The training is completely directed toward meeting your individual needs. The cost is $ 300.00 for a five week session.

The second program is a small group of no more than 8 dogs that will meet for 1 hr. once a week for seven weeks. Keeping the class size small, will allow for individualized attention. Being in a group, gives your dog the advantage of learning to socialize with other dogs and people. This is very important to create a well adjusted dog. The classes will cover ways to deal with behavioral problems, as well as all the basic obedience comands. The cost for all seven classes is
$ 175.00.

WHY IS OBEDIENCE TRAINING IMPORTANT

Dogs often behave like small children, you have probably heard this comment from fellow dog owners. Puppies, like children, can be sweet, innocent and playful. They're not born with the knowledge of what is proper behavior. As a dog lover, owner, and trainer, my goal is to teach your pet desired behavior while at the same time, keeping alive the unique spark that makes your dog so special to you. The result can be one of the most rewarding relationships in your life.

I love dogs, all dogs, big and small, puppy and adult, purebred and mixed. My goal is to help you develop and maintain lasting relationships with your canine friends. Key to that relationship is an understanding of your dog's behavior, combined with consistent, effective training regardless of age. While the best training period is during the puppy months, older dogs are extremely responsive. I believe that whoever said, you can't teach an old dog new tricks, just didn't know how!

LEARN HOW TO DEAL WITH BEHAVIORAL PROBLEMS

My training programs teach your dog to accept you, the owner, as the leader of the pack. This is achieved using special training methods. The end result allows us to teach your dog to listen to commands, as well as eliminate or curtail any behavioral problems. It's this kind of training that conditions your pet to live happily within a structured lifestyle in which you set the rules. My training will help give you the knowledge and expertise needed to be effective in controlling your dog. Positive training that really works. Experience the difference.

WHAT TYPES OF TRAINING METHODS ARE USED?

At YOUR BEST FRIEND Training School, I don't just use one method of training. Dogs, like people, have individual personalities and live in many different types of environments. Because of that, I have a whole series of methods at my disposal. All of the special training techniques that are used are gentle, humane and effective. Consistent follow-through, coupled with enthusiastic praise is the method used to motivate many dogs. What is important is to choose the correct training method that best fits your dog and situation.

BEGINNER'S OR PUPPY GROUP TRAINING

My Beginner's training program has several goals:

1. PREVENTION OF BEHAVIORAL PROBLEMS

Learn proper house breaking methods as well as boundary training. Teach your puppy not to be unnecessarily shy or aggressive, and much more.

2. LEARNING TO LISTEN

At this young age, your puppy hasn't completely learned not to listen to you. As puppies get older, they often become more independent and willful. My puppy program allows you to make the most of the impressionable phase by teaching your puppy to sit, sit stay, down, down stay, leave it, take it and come when called.

3. SOLVING BEHAVIOR PROBLEMS

Puppies may be cute and sweet, but they're not always angels. Learn how to deal with nipping, jumping, chewing, digging, barking and much more, without having to resort to the use of intimidation to get control.

INTERMEDIATE GROUP CLASSES

My intermediate group classes are designed to open the door of communication between you and your dog. You will learn how to teach your dog basic commands as well as how to prevent or solve some common behavior problems.
My obedience classes will provide the proper format to sharpen the all-important skills learned in the Beginner's group, as well as adding additional commands. On-leash commands are introduced at the rate of two to three a week, enabling you to spend quality time at home between lessons polishing commands before new ones are introduced. The presence of other dogs and people provide a distracting environment which enable you to teach your dog to pay attention in any situation. It is critical for your dog to learn to listen to you under any situation; it could end up saving your dog's life. By training the dog and dog owner to work together as a team, we set the stage for a rewarding and fulfilling relationship.

Here is a list of some of the commands and behaviors that will be addressed in the program:
sit, sit stay, down, down stay, leave it, take it, come, heel, chewing, digging, jumping on people, nipping, excessive barking, house-soiling, house manners, car sickness, jumping on furniture, separation anxiety and bolting.

ADVANCED GROUP CLASSES

The advanced obedience program enables you to establish proper control over your dog both on and off the leash. The off-leash portion of our program is extremely important since your dog doesn't live on his leash. Dogs that only learn to listen on the leash are really only half-trained. The act of you working with your dog as a team goes a long way in forging a lasting bond. It provides a critical foundation in which to correct and even prevent certain behavioral problems. The key to solving behavioral problems is an understanding of what motivates your dog to act inappropriately plus knowing the proper effective methods for eliminating these types of behaviors. When training is done with kindness and affection, it can frequently increase your dog's confidence.
